(April 5, 2016)—Oh Perea’s, how I love you. Is it bad to look forward to Saturday morning at Perea’s when it’s only 8:15 a.m. on a Monday? I think not. Here’s another one of those Albuquerque gems that I had heard about for years, yet never experienced for myself. The only (two) words I can think of that’re appropriate for my first Perea’s experience are “life changing”. And that’s no exaggeration. Every time I go to Perea’s (I’m looking at you, Saturday morning), I shoo away the menu and quickly order the Huevos Rancheros half-portion (because I’m obviously a very healthy eater) with red chile, hash browns and corn tortillas.
Next thing I know the plate is already being plopped down in front of me and it’s all I can do to not pour the entire plate all over my face. Perea’s red chile is the stuff that dreams are made of. If they were open for dinner, I would probably be bankrupt at this point, except for the fact that their prices are so incredibly reasonable.
The staff is comprised of the most friendly and lovely women who are always so excited to see you and the atmosphere feels like you could be in your grandma’s kitchen, waiting patiently for your breakfast. Run, don’t walk, to Perea’s. I’ll see you there on Saturday morning. Too bad it’s only Monday. Enjoy!
