Just a stone’s throw away from downtown Albuquerque

(April 15, 2016)—And here we are, another rainy and gloomy day in the 505. So what does that mean? Soup time! Is it bad that everything has to remind me of food? Nah.

I was pondering where to go for lunch today and Cocina Azul came to mind. I had only been there for dinner (which is always delish) so I thought I’d give it a go. The creamy green chile chicken stew immediately popped off the menu. Did I mention that it comes with a fresh sopapilla?? Talk about brightening up an otherwise dreary afternoon. And apparently everyone else in town had the same idea as me, because the restaurant was packed! I’m talking standing room only. (Always a good sign, in my opinion).

I am New Mexico

But, back to the soup. The broth was extra rich and creamy, it was loaded with white meat chicken and the chopped green chile was extra flavorful. And the sopapilla, my goodness, talk about amazing. Their recipe tastes slightly sweeter than other sopapillas around town, which made it feel extra special.

As the rain slowly started trickling down outside, I was very content with my hot lunch and sweet desert. I will definitely be back for seconds. Well done Cocina Azul!
