Facebook Doubles its Footprint in New Mexico
New Mexico – When it comes to jobs, that’s something all New Mexicans can be overjoyed for. With poverty levels on an almost constant high, we love to see those who were once unemployed, filled with happiness when that land that job they’ve always dreamed of. Although it may not be the job of your dreams, Facebook, the big blue F, will bring over a thousand jobs to New Mexico by the year 2020. That’s quite impressive, I must say. The only thing is that only 100 of them will remain full-time, once the facility is opened.
Last month Facebook announced it will double the size of its data center in Los Lunas, New Mexico. The company is adding a $250 million, 460,000 square-foot building to the site bringing the total square footage of the complex close to one million. This second building will bring the total construction workers on site to 1,000, and 100 full-time employees when complete. Construction is expected to be completed in 2020.
With so much uninhabitable barren land around us in the Bernalillo County area, it would sure make a great place to build large distribution centers and manufacturers. Things like that would be a great infusion into the economy, and the effects would be great on public morale. Hopefully, this will trigger more companies like them to move out to the “Land of Enchantment”. It truly is a spectacular place to live if you’re not struggling to get by.
