TAOS, NM—Now in its 15th year of bringing the hottest bands to Taos, the Taos Solar Music Festival is asking music lovers to choose which New Mexico band they would like to see perform at the festival, held on June 27 and 28. Voting will be available via Facebook today, June 6, until 5 p.m. on June 18.
“The Fans get to choose who they want to see get the spot on the Taos Solar Festival Stage – the winning band will have to be ready to show their fans how to vote and win new fans with their efforts on Facebook to drive people to vote,” said Taos Solar Music festival organizer Dawn Richardson.
From May 15–30, Taos Solar Music Festival organizers held a call for entries as part of their “Fan of the Band” contest. New Mexico based bands were asked to upload a 3 to 5 minute video of a live performance and submit it to be judged. Judges received more than 30 entries, and narrowed them down to the top five finalists. On June 3, the finalists’ videos are posted to the Taos Solar Music Festival’s Facebook page. Fans who “like” the Taos Solar Music Festival Facebook page can vote for the band of their choice. One vote per Facebook profile only. The video with the most votes at 5 p.m. on June 18 will be determined the winner.
The winning band will receive $1,000, and will be given the opportunity to perform as the Main Stage opening act on Saturday, June 27.
This is the second time the festival has held a band contest as part of the Taos Solar Music Festival. The winner of the first band search in 2012 was Santa Fe based group, Anthony Leon and the Chain.
The 15th annual Taos Solar Music Festival will feature a hot list of headliners including Kongos, The Wallflowers, John Butler Trio, Rodrigo y Gabriela, and Rixton.
The Taos Solar Music Festival was responsible for one of the largest sell-out shows ever in Taos, with the Mumford and Sons concert in 2013.
