Send us your best creative writing on any subject! Just make sure your works are well-crafted and polished. Enter in one of two categories: short prose (fiction or nonfiction) or poetry. Winning entries will be published in Pasatiempo on Friday, Dec. 25.
Short prose: up to 800 words
Poetry: up to 20 lines
One submission per entrant only.
All entries in the teen and adult categories must be typed.
Please make sure to give your submission a title.
All entries must be received by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1. No exceptions.
Be sure to include the following with your submission:
Name, phone number, mailing address, e-mail address
Age and age-category: Adult (19+); Teen (13–18); Child (5–12)
Category to which you are submitting (prose or poetry)
Put “Pasa Writing Contest” in the subject line. Paste the story into the body of the email and attach it as a Word document. (Do not attach PDFs or Notepad files.)
All entries from teens and adults must be typed. (Submissions from children 12 and under may be handwritten.)
No bulk class assignments will be accepted. Do not submit themed essays, response papers, or short-story assignments in which all students were required to use the same subject matter and vocabulary words. Such entries will not be judged. All stories, essays, and poems must be original work from the imagination of the writer.
Do not submit previously published material.
We reserve the right to edit work for publication. Submissions cannot be returned.
