Albuquerque, New Mexico – Albuquerque Summerfest has had a lot of transformations over the years. As a kid in the 80’s, Summerfest was always downtown. As a matter of fact, I think it went on throughout the summer, every weekend. Every week a different culture was showcased. Scandinavian night, Spanish night, etc, you remember… Every time we went there was always a crowd, and to be honest, I think the community was a little more tightly knit. I guess before cable television and handheld devices, people knew how to have a good time.

Even though now it’s more of a showcase of flourishing NM brands, sponsorships, and less about the culture, New Mexicans still know how to have a good time. Even if our local, social infrastructure, has deteriorated over the years, every once in a while they’ll be something going on that will bring people out of their homes to celebrate being New Mexican (a culture defined by its strong family values, connections, and word of mouth based bartering/business).
At this years ABQ Downtown Summerfest, they’ll be musical guests, such as famous Dennis DeYoung and the Music of Styx, great food, local microbrews and much more.
